Blood Tests

At Dexters pharmacy, we offer a range of common blood tests. Tests are carried out by trained healthcare professionals within the pharmacy and subsequently, tailored advice can be given depending on results.
Diabetes Check (fasting glucose)- A fasting glucose test measures the level of glucose in your blood after an overnight fast, typically requiring at least eight hours without food or drink. This test helps diagnose diabetes or prediabetes by indicating how well your body manages blood sugar levels.
Lactate Test: A lactate test measures the level of lactate in the blood, typically to assess how well the body is using oxygen during intense exercise or to diagnose conditions such as lactic acidosis. Elevated lactate levels can indicate tissue hypoxia or other metabolic issues, helping guide treatment decisions.
Cholesterol Check- A cholesterol check measures the levels of different types of cholesterol and fats in your blood, including LDL (‘bad’ cholesterol), HDL (‘good’ cholesterol), and triglycerides. This test helps assess your risk of heart disease and stroke, guiding lifestyle changes or treatments to improve your cardiovascular health.
Uric Acid– A uric acid test measures the level of uric acid in the blood, which can indicate how well the body is metabolizing this waste product. Elevated levels may suggest conditions such as gout, kidney disease, or certain metabolic disorders, helping to inform diagnosis and treatment.
B-ketone Test- A β-ketone test measures the concentration of ketone bodies, specifically β-hydroxybutyrate, in the blood or urine to assess the body’s state of ketosis. This test is often used in managing diabetes, particularly in evaluating diabetic ketoacidosis, and in monitoring ketogenic diets for weight loss or epilepsy management.
Vitamin D rapid Test– A Vitamin D rapid test quickly measures the levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the blood to assess a person’s vitamin D status. This test helps identify deficiencies or insufficiencies that may impact bone health, immune function, and overall well-being.
Iron rapid test– An iron rapid test measures the levels of iron in the blood to assess iron deficiency or overload conditions, such as anaemia or hemochromatosis. This quick test can provide immediate insights into a person’s iron status, helping guide further diagnostic or treatment decisions.
